Traditional Chinese medicine practices have evolved over thousands of years, using various techniques to restore the balance of Qi, believed to be a vital life force.
Chinese medicine practitioners play a similar role in the Eastern tradition to GPs in the Western tradition. They are primary practitioners with a broad skill set who are consulted about many different health problems.
Chinese medicine is based on the premise that imbalances in a vital life force, known as Qi, cause disease and illness. Restoring the balance of Qi involves equalising the influence of internal and external elements.

The Health Collective’s Chinese medicine practitioner, Longlin Shen, blends the best of the Western and Eastern traditions.
Longlin was born in China and, unlike many Australian practitioners of Chinese medicine, is fluent in her native language and able to understand traditional herbal remedies in depth.
For decades, Longlin was a nurse working in Melbourne hospitals in intensive care units, cardiac care, oncology and general wards. Along with the many treatment advances, she was also conscious that the system left little time to provide holistic care for patients and so completed additional training in Chinese medicines.
Along with providing hands-on treatment such as massage, cupping or acupuncture, Longlin is a confident prescriber of traditional Chinese herbal medicines.
The Health Collective is, indeed a collective. Our various healthcare practitioners refer to one another, meaning Longlin may receive or refer patients from other colleagues within The Health Collective team.
